Our Commitment

KCS-RD is committed to the total Christian educational experience. All families in KCS-RD are Christian. All staff are committed Christians as well. This creates a different culture and attitude within the school and in all the interpersonal relationships at the school. Our aim is to maximize each child's potential in Christ and to provide a godly, ordered and disciplined education for each child.

Our school focus is on the academic, physical and spiritual development of each child. Parental involvement is encouraged. KCS-RD wants loving, caring and involved parents to be actively participating in all aspects of our school.

Enrollment/Tuition

Koinonia Christian School is a privately operated non-profit school. Like all private schools, it receives funding from Alberta Learning at a rate of about one third of public/separate system schools. Fundraising and tuition are required to meet the minimum operating expenses of the school.

Subsidy Programs

KCS-RD strives to offer quality Christian education to all children, regardless of income. Subsidy programs to cover the cost of private education are available to low income families who apply and are approved. Subsidy application forms are available and can offer reduced tuition rates as low as $50 per month.

Academic Achievement

Academic achievement is a keystone at KCS-RD. At KCS-RD, we believe that each child is capable of an education at the high school matriculation level and we encourage all students to take that educational path. Many of our former students have gone on to universities and colleges. Our drop out rate is very low. Contact us for a listing of courses offered by KCS-RD.

Academic Programs

The school runs a full educational program for the following:

  • Playschool - 2 half days per week with separate classes for 3 and 4-year olds; certified teacher, aide, parental involvement
  • Kindergarten - 3 full days per week; certified teacher, aide, work experience students, parental involvement, pre-reading & numerical skills taught, centres, field trips
  • Elementary - grades 1-6; follow Alberta curriculum with Christian integration
  • Junior & Senior High - grades 7 and 8 and Senior High - grades 9 - 12; use Alberta curriculum with Biblical integration in all subjects

Unique to KCS-RD is the ability to provide Christian Education to all students, in one facility. We wish to be a school for all the children in the family. We strive to live in Christian community within our school, where the students, staff and our families grow together.

Spiritual Enrichment

The spiritual and emotional development of each child is important to KCS-RD. Each child receives:

  • Coordinated extensive Biblical training
  • Scripture memorization
  • Spiritual guidance
  • Regular worship services

Students regularly lead worship for the rest of the school. The high school students also participate in ministry locally and abroad, with mission trips to Mexico and other activities.

Computer Training

Our school places a high priority on "the basics" but also encourages the use of technology. The school has a full computer lab and internet access is available to the students in all of the classrooms.

Physical Education Training

KCS-RD places a high value in physical fitness and Christ-like sportsmanship. Apart from regular physical education classes, the school also offers:

  • High school skip trip
  • Ski day for the elementary and junior high classes
  • Swimming lessons
  • Organized league play for basketball, volleyball and badminton
  • Organized track and field team

Music and Drama Training

The development of confidence and self-esteem has been realized in many students. Our school actively undertakes musical productions, for children of all ages. The younger children do at least two concerts a year while the older children may participate in dramatic productions. The school is unique in that it offers a full band program for all junior high students. Students have musical retreats and have the opportunity to play with other school bands. The school regularly undertakes major commercial dramatic productions. Each major dramatic production spotlights our students and encourages parents and staff to participate.

KCS-RD is a parent run school, with the School Board members elected from the parent body to sit on two-year terms. Each fall, elections are held at the annual fall parents business meeting.

The school board duties are to:

  • Set policy for the school
  • Pray for students, staff and school

  • Approve the Budget
  • Monitor financial expenditures and overall condition of the school
  • Undertake and set future plans.

Message from the Chairman of the Board

A Board of Directors, elected from within the parent body, governs Koinonia Christian School Red Deer. This gives parents the opportunity to be involved in the operation of the school by serving on the Board and numerous committees. Parent volunteerse are encouraged and welcomed, not only at the Board/Committee level, but also in the classroom, providing assistance to teachers.

Currently the Board is comprised of individuals with a variety of background experience, which provides strength to our school.

Koinonia Christian School Red Deer is part of a larger system of schools, twelve in total, directed by a superintendent. The superintendent assists with policies and procedures and comes along side to give support and direction to individual school boards and administrators.
