About the event
This is June 26 from 10-2 (or come early and stay later). We will meet at the Astonin Lake Recreation Area. See the map in this link: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/elkisland/visit/cartes-maps From there, as per requests from some families, we will split into smaller groups depending on the length of the hikes people want to go on. 1. Stay at the playground/beach area (some with littles and seniors have asked for this option) 2. Living Waters boardwalk near the playground which is 400 metres. (#6 on the trail map) 3. Lakeview Trail which is a 3.7 km loop 4. Shoreline Trail (which is a paved trail) is a 6 km return trail, so you can turn around at any point. Here is the trail map: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/elkisland/activ/experiences/randonee-hiking We will meet at 10:00 by the bathrooms near the parking lot at Astonin Lake, group and go on the designated hikes, and then head back to the playground area to have a picnic and continue with fellowship. Each family is responsible for their entry fees, which is $9 for an adult, free for 17 and under, $7.75 for seniors and $17.50 for a family or group (which is up to 7 people in a single vehicle). There are canoe/kayak rentals available if people are interested in that, but that will be on an individual basis and not organized by Koinonia for this specific event. PLEASE ROBIN DEROW if you need anything or have any questions - 780-632-8744. NOTE: you may want to bring bug spray and read up about wildlife safety with your family. There are many animals and we want to ensure that we are being safe and keeping a safe distance. https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/elkisland/securite-safety/faune-wildlife
