About the event
The competition provides an opportunity for young Albertans studying a skilled trade or technology to be tested against exacting standards and against their peers. Students vie to win the honour of being crowned best in the province in their chosen discipline, and for the opportunity to join Team Alberta for the Skills Canada national Competition.
There is no cost for this event, onsite parking is listed as $15/day; LRT station is available. This event is geared towards students in grade 8 and up.
The competition runs from May 3 -4. We will meet at 10:30am at the Registration Desk to gain a map and organize as a group. Please register grade 8-12 students in Eventbrite. You may also bring your younger children and attend the event with them, but only the older children need to be registered as we have signed up for a quick video in "Launch Pad" for the grade 8- 12 students to watch prior to entry into the exhibitor halls, which will give the students an overview of the competition events. Every registered student, teacher and chaperone will receive a bag and a pair of safety glasses to use and take home. These are to be worn where required in the exhibitor halls. Also, you can view the floorplan to look at the different activity areas that will be available. If you wish to watch the video as a parent, and are not responsible for younger children, please register as a chaperone.
Families will explore the competition and watch competitors, for those interested we can meet up for lunch in the concession area.
The Expo Centre has a food court area and families can can also bring their own lunch in if desired.
The event also runs through May 4 with judging beginning at 1:00pm that day and winners announced by 4:30pm should families wish to stay over and accommodation rates are available on the webpage.
